How to Send an Automatic Instagram DM From a Comment

Learn how to send an automatic Instagram DM from a comment: a viewer comments your keyword, Blind Agents replies publicly and opens a chat with an AI agent.

Want every comment on your posts to turn into a conversation? This guide shows you how to send an automatic Instagram DM from a comment: you set a keyword, and when someone comments it on your post or reel, Blind Agents replies to the comment publicly and sends them a direct message automatically. That DM opens a conversation in your inbox that an AI agent continues for you, around the clock, in automatic, copilot, or manual mode.

What is a comment-to-DM auto-reply (ManyChat-style)?

It is an automation that links a comment to a direct message. The logic is simple: you define one or more keywords; when a contact comments any of them on the post you chose, the sequence fires. It is the same pattern popularized by tools like ManyChat, but wired into your AI agents and your multichannel inbox.

  • Public reply: Blind Agents answers the comment in the open, so the exchange feels natural and others see you respond.
  • Automatic DM (private reply): the person receives a direct message with your opening message.
  • Conversation opened: that DM creates a conversation in your inbox, tied to the contact.
  • AI agent in charge: an agent continues the chat, answers questions, qualifies, and books, based on the mode you pick.

Why send an automatic DM from a comment

  • You respond instantly: interest is handled in the moment, not hours later.
  • You turn reach into conversations: every comment with your keyword becomes a 1:1 chat.
  • You scale without a team glued to the phone: the agent handles dozens of comments at once.
  • Everything is logged per contact: history lives in your inbox, not in scattered notifications.
  • It keeps going across channels: the same conversation can continue in your multichannel setup.

Instagram only lets you send the DM within a 24-hour window from the interaction. Blind Agents respects that window automatically: the auto-DM goes out in time, and if the window closes, the agent takes that into account.

How to send an automatic Instagram DM from a comment, step by step

Everything is set up in the Automations section. You just need your Instagram account connected and at least one agent created.

Before you start

  • Your Instagram account (professional or creator) connected to Blind Agents.
  • An AI agent ready, with the tone and goal you want.
  • The URLs of specific posts or reels, if you do not want it to apply to all of them.

The steps

  1. Open Automations and click New to create an automation.
  2. In Details, choose the Instagram channel and set the scope: all your posts, or just some by pasting the URL of the post or reel.
  3. In Trigger and message, add your keywords as chips (for example, INFO, PRICE, WANT). When a comment contains one, it fires.
  4. Write the opening message the person will receive by DM: it is the first line of the conversation, so make it clear and warm.
  5. Set the alternative public reply in case the contact does not accept messages from everyone (more on that below).
  6. In Agent and delivery, choose the AI agent that will continue the conversation and the mode: automatic, copilot, or manual.
  7. Save and activate the automation. From then on, every comment with your keyword fires the auto-DM.

What if the person does not accept messages from everyone?

Instagram does not always allow a DM to someone who restricts messages from unknown accounts. So you do not lose that contact, Blind Agents posts an alternative public reply on the comment, inviting them to message you first. That way, even when the private reply cannot be delivered, the interaction does not go silent.

Always set the alternative public reply. It is your safety net when the automatic DM cannot be delivered due to the contact's privacy settings or the 24-hour window.

Pick the agent mode: automatic, copilot, or manual

  • Automatic: the agent replies on its own, end to end. Ideal for volume and 24/7 coverage.
  • Copilot: the agent drafts the reply and your team approves or edits it before sending.
  • Manual: the agent prepares the context, but a person runs the conversation.

Tips to turn more comments into conversations

Small tweaks to your keyword, your scope, and your opening message make the difference between a comment that is lost and a conversation that moves forward.

  • Pick short, easy-to-type keywords (INFO, PRICE, WANT): the simpler they are, the more people comment them.
  • Announce them in your post or reel: tell your audience exactly what to comment to get the DM.
  • Make the opening message personal, with a clear next step, not a generic blurb.
  • Start by applying the automation to one specific post by pasting its URL, then expand to all of them once it works.
  • Mind the alternative public reply: it is visible to everyone, so treat it with the same care as the DM.

Measure what is working

Every automation reports its metrics in the Monitor, so you know whether your keyword and opening message are converting:

  • Triggered: how many comments activated the automation.
  • Sent: how many automatic DMs went out.
  • Delivered: how many reached the contact.
  • Read (Seen): how many were marked as seen.
  • Response rate: what share of contacts replied and continued the conversation.

With these numbers you can test keywords, tweak the opening message, and compare posts to keep whatever drives the most conversations.

Sending an automatic Instagram DM from a comment stops being an isolated growth hack: it becomes the doorway to a real conversation, handled by an agent that replies, qualifies, and follows up for you. And because everything stays in one inbox, that chat can keep going over WhatsApp, email, or other channels without the contact repeating their story.
